Q: Pelican Stores, a chain of women's apparel stores operating throughout the country, recently ran a promotion in which discount coupons were sent to customers of related stores. Data collected for a sample of 100 in-store credit card transactions during one day in November 2002 are contained in the file named Pelican. Table below shows a portion of the data set. A nonzero amount for discount variable indicates that the customer brought in the promotional coupons and used them.

Pelican's management wants to use this sample data to learn about its customer base and to evaluate the promotion involving discount coupons.

Managerial Report

Use the methods of descriptive statistics presented in this chapter to summarize the data and comment on your findings. At a minimum, your report should include the following.

1. Descriptive statistics on sales and descriptive statistics on sales by various classifications of customers.(provide pai chart, Bar, Histogram ,boxplot if applicable)

2. Descriptive statistics on the relationship between discount amount and sales for those customers responding to the promotion..(provide pai chart, Bar, Histogram , boxplot if applicable)

3. Descriptive statistics concerning the relationship between age and sales..(provide pai chart, Bar, Histogram , boxplot if applicable)

Comment on any findings that appear interesting and of potential value to management.
