There are different types of sclerenchyma cells that we will not investigate in this lab. Sclerenchyma cells provide strength and support in regions of the plant that have ceased elongating. Although collenchyma and sclerenchyma cells both serve a support function within the plant, it is only the sclerenchyma cells that have well-developed secondary cell walls.
