Prepare: Sports reporting is perhaps the most recognized type of journalism outside of hard news coverage. Entire magazines, websites, as well as radio and television programs are devoted to nothing but sports coverage. While many of those "reporting" on sports are former athletes, there is a difference between the sports commentator and the sports journalist. Commentators typically provide opinions on the game itself or the athletes involved. While sport journalists may do the same, their responsibility is also to report fair and unbiased coverage beyond the scoreboard. In recent years, many teams and athletes have been under scrutiny for some type of illegal or unethical activity.
Reflect: Choose an issue that occurred in the past year and that reflected poorly on the sports industry. Evaluate a story surrounding the issue and discuss whether you believe the reporter dealt with the issues in a fair and balanced manner.
Write: After you have reflected on the impact of the issue, write a 250- to 300-word response that discusses how well you feel the reporter handled the story. In your initial post, you must include at least one in-text citation from the reading material and an additional in-text citation from a scholarly source that you locate in the Ashford University Library or from another credible source. At the end of your post, include your name and a full reference for all sources cited in the body of your post. All citations and references must adhere to APA style .

Prepare: Entertainment journalism is probably more commonly referred to as entertainment news. There is no shortage of magazines, television programs, and websites dedicated to delivering news to the public about celebrities and the latest trends and gadgets. While this area of journalism is attractive, many people do not understand the qualifications required and what it actually takes to succeed. For this discussion, you will explore either a print or digital entertainment news publication or an entertainment news program.
Reflect: First, explore the website for your chosen publication or program. Next, view the profiles of those who write or broadcast for the entity. Then, look for any job postings that are available on the site. Once you have completed these steps, consider the three most important journalistic skills as well as the two most important character attributes you believe a person wishing to work for the publication or program must possess.
