Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is twofold:
(1) to require you to critically think about and react to something you have read
(2) to enhance your general writing abilities.
Out of the twenty-five chapters you will read in your Handbook of Attachment text (over fifteen class sessions), choose Twelve of the chapters for which you would like to write a reaction paper. After reading the chapters that you have chosen, you will write a three to five-page paper, double-spaced paper in which you provide your reaction to what you read. The format of the paper should be as follows:
INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH
- This paragraph should give a brief description of what you will be discussing in your paper. In other words, this paragraph should provide a general "road map" of what is to come.
BODY OF PAPER
- This should be 2-3 paragraphs in which you provide your reaction to the article. Each paragraph should have a sentence or two that presents the main idea, followed by supporting sentences.
CONCLUDING PARAGRAPH
- This paragraph should provide a general overview of what was discussed in your paper. Provide a "wrap up" of your main points.
Papers should have 1" margins with 12-point font. No direct quotes allowed! Include a cover page with your name and the title of the chapter you are writing about-none of this information should appear on the reaction page. Please remember parenthetic citations are required and so is a separate reference page.
This assignment will be graded using the following general criteria:
Evidence of critical thought
--Was their evidence that the reaction was clearly thought out?
--How original were the thoughts presented in the paper?
Writing style (All writing must be in formal APA format)
--Was the format of the paper followed?
--Did the intro paragraph provide a description of what was to come?
--Did the paragraphs have a main idea with supporting sentences?
--Did the conclusion provide an overview of what was discussed?
Reaction Papers are to be written on the Handbook of Attachment readings only.
