Diagnosis
Lumbar puncture is done which shows cloudy CSF with increased pressure, the white cell count predominantly contains neutrophils. CSF proteins are increased but sugar is considerably reduced below 30 mg and sometimes 10 to 20 mg.
CSF culture is done to identify causative organisms and their antibiotic sensitivity.
Planning of Nursing Care
- Isolate the child
- Administer appropriate drugs-intravenous antibiotics
- Control seizures as advised
- Monitor the vital signs
- Maintain fluid intake
- Provide rest and comfort.
