Deviation from ideal gas behavior
The Van der Waal''s Equation
This is observed, deviations from gas laws are high under high pressures & low temperatures. The Van der Waal suggested, these deviations are due to the following below two faulty assumptions in the kinetic theory of the gases.
Intermolecular attractions are not present in gas.
Actual volume of the gas molecules is negligible as compared to the total volume of gas.
According to theory of van der Waal''s in case of real gases molecules do have a volume & also exert intermolecular attractions especially when the pressure is high & temperature is low. He suggested two corrections
