Applying the Balanced Scorecard to a Church
Response to the following problem:
As an accountant and active member of a local church, you have been asked by your pastor to help him develop a Balanced Scorecard management system for the church. He is seriously interested in continuous improvement and believes that by identifying and monitoring the right performance measurements, the church will be more successful. In discussions with the pastor, you have determined that the scorecard should focus on the following four areas:
• Increase in learning and commitment of members
• Size of congregation and membership
• Respect in the community
• Amount of financial contributions
Required:
Develop a performance measurement system for these four areas that includes both leading and outcome measures that could be used by the pastor and his church to grow and measure the success of his ecumenical efforts.
