Discussion Board
In your first post, introduce yourself to your instructor and peers. Share who you are, where you are from, and what your goals are for taking this course. You will then have an opportunity to ask some scientific questions of your own. Choose a news story from Science Daily and identify the natural science topic, and identify supporting evidence. Complete the following:
o Develop two questions that might be of interest to a natural scientist based on the information presented in the news story. As you develop these questions, consider the information presented in the video about scientific questions found in the module resources. For example, if you were to build off the article on volcano eruption, your questions might revolve around predicting volcanic eruptions or the causes of volcanic eruptions.
o In the discussion forum, post your news story title and a link to it, a 1- to 2-paragraph summary of your news story (feel free to use the same summary you completed in the Science in the News short answer activity), and your two questions. You can present your information as a mini-presentation, an infographic, a standard discussion post, or any other way you wish. Be creative, if you like!
o When responding to your peers, consider whether you see a clear connection between the questions they ask and the natural sciences. Based on this review, do you think you could further clarify your own post? Remember that when you respond to your peers in the discussion forum, your tone and language should be very respectful. Your feedback should be constructive, meaning that it focuses on positive aspects and how the presented ideas might be strengthened.
The response should include a reference list. One-inch margins, Using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space and APA style of writing and citations.
