Assumption: with regard to any of the above types of defect a road is considered to have reached its serviceability when:
- Cracking is 100%
- Rutting is 20 mm
- Deflection is 1000 microns
- Roughness is 12 m/km.
All defects have the same weighting on serviceability.
For this data set:
(a) Develop condition indices to represent each defect.
(b) Develop a single equation which can be used to prioritise the sections for [1] treatment. The equation should make use of the condition indices you have developed in question 4.(a) above.
(c) Using the equation you have developed in 4. (b) and for the year 2007, put the 5 [6] sections in priority order for maintenance treatment.
(d) Show how the maintenance priority of the 5 sections has changed in 2008 and [12] 2009.
(e) Using the equation you developed in question 4.(b), build a simple stepped [3.3] function for treatment selection using generic treatments which are significantly different from each other.
(f) Using the function found in question 4.(e), identify appropriate maintenance [10] programmes for the years 2007 and 2009.
Question 2 Write an essay that will describe how a road organisation can successfully identify, design, implement, establish and operate a data management system that is suitable for its business needs.
