Choose a publicly traded company.
Write an 8-page business report about an aspect of the company. For the business report, you will (with my help) develop a research question to answer about the company that combines your discipline/concentration with strategic management. To start thinking of questions ask yourself, what are the challenges or questions facing the profession for which you are preparing?
To complete the report, you will need to do research to locate appropriate evidence that addresses the question, evaluate the evidence in relation to the question, and articulate conclusions that follow logically from your analysis. We will cover all of this in class. Do not write an essay. This will be a business research report, and you should use the following headings (also consider including sub-headings if needed): Executive Summary Introduction Research Methods Findings and Recommendations Use short paragraphs and sentences, and use graphs, tables and annotations where necessary.
Limited use of bullet-points is also acceptable as long as they add clarity to the report. Support your analysis with relevant literature. Do not merely restate the facts - support your arguments with calculations, charts, tables, or graphs showing your analysis, and by other reputable proof. Treat this assignment as if you were a business consultant. Write your report for an executive audience.
Use professional language and layout, highlight key points in an executive summary, be thorough in your analysis, justify your conclusions. Proofread your work. Check spelling, grammar, layout, coherence, sentence and paragraph structure, logical flow of argument. Imagine the CEO of the company will read your work.
