Consider the following scenario:
You have recently become the manager of Academies Australasia computer network. Academies Australasia wants to obtain a wireless router, so they can offer wi-fi network to the students. You have been delegated the task to locate a suitable device.

Question 2: Find suppliers
Use a range of sources to search for three local suppliers of a wireless router device. Sources could include the Internet, magazines, newspapers or telephone directory.
List the suppliers and explain why you think these suppliers are suitable.

As you are aware the wireless network equipment is being installed in the library, our legal department has identified lack of policy and procedure for the wireless network.
This introduces another level of security concern, so the Legal Department would like the I.T department to develop a wireless network policy and procedure for users of the network.

Read the following case study and complete the relevant activities.
You have recently become the manager of Academies Australasia computer network running 40 workstations and two servers (mail and file). Each machine and the servers are running Microsoft Windows XP with Microsoft Office 2007. There are also other user specific software programs loaded upon various machines.
After a month or so in your job, you have received many complaints from users that the network is running "slow". Further investigation has revealed that the Network Interface Cards (NIC) in each machine are not compatible with Windows XP and you will need to replace the NIC in each workstation.
In preparation for this, you have decided to complete the following tasks:
Your Task :
a. Create a worksheet to be used when surveying each user to identify their network needs.
b. Use this worksheet to survey three users of a computer network to determine their actual network needs.
c. Collate these results to create an outline of the requirements that the new NIC would need to meet (for Windows XP, Office 2007 and network requirements obtained from users).
d. Undertake some research and locate at least two NICs that would meet these standards.
e. Write a brief report outlining your results found including an outline of how the required standards are met and the steps that would need to be undertaken to purchase the approved NICs.
f. Develop a plan for the installation of the new NICs within the company network.
