Select a topic from the list below, and choose one position to use. If you have a personal position on the topic, select the opposing view for this problem.
Topics with opposing positions:
1) Gun debate: gun rights or gun control
2) Voter ID: mandated ID check or no ID check
3) Energy: fossil fuels versus green energy
4) Health care: universal or privatized
5) School: public school or school choice
6) Request approval for a topic and position.
After selecting a topic and position, develop a main argument and at least two supporting arguments. The arguments require the following:
1) Your main and supporting arguments should each be a single, complete sentence.
2) Your main argument must be a clear statement that takes a position on the issue and the overarching theme of your argument. Main arguments are similar in construction to a thesis statement.
3) You must include supporting arguments that provide factual evidence (logos) and emotional appeals (pathos) and address causal relationships.
4) In your supporting arguments, be sure to cite the facts, statistics, and other elements derived from sources.
