Determine the underlying mental health concerns

Problem: Todd lost his job six months ago, and feels he is a failure.  He has lost interest in doing anything and has begun drinking heavily.  He sleeps most of the day and sometimes watches TV for a good portion of the night.  Recently, his dog died, which has brought up unresolved grief about the death of his youngest brother through drowning when he was eight and his brother was six.  He finds he can't stop thinking about his brother, blaming himself for not saving him.  Todd was in the same backyard pool when his brother drowned.

What are the presenting problems with this case?  How will you determine the underlying mental health concerns?  Present two counselling models which might be appropriate.
