Functional foods are:
- Conventional/everyday foods consumed as a part of the normal diet;
- Composed of naturally-occurring components, sometimes in increased
- Concentration or present in foods that would not normally supply them;
- Scientifically demonstrated to promote positive effects on target functions beyond basic nutrition;
- Thought to provide enhancement of the state of well-being and health in order to improve the quality of life and/or reduce the risk of disease; and
- Advertised by authorized claims.
