Problem:

Harry and June (ages 94 and 88) present to your office with their daughter (age 62) to have Harry "checked out" following a fall he experienced at home yesterday while walking in his kitchen. Harry and June live alone and are both fully independent in ADLs and IADLs. Both are considered quite healthy and lead active lives. Harry has no complaints following his fall yesterday and he denies any loss of consciousness during the event. He feels he simply "tripped" yet his daughter feels he should be admitted to the hospital for a work-up to determine the cause of his fall. You find no abnormalities or areas of concern during a physical examination. You share each of the following pieces of knowledge with the family with the exception of: Group of answer choices Orthostatic hypotension may predispose a person to a fall but, since Harry did not complain of any dizziness with his fall, I don't think that he has a problem with orthostasis An individual's gait may change with aging and they may not pick up their feet as high It is important that Harry and June both wear properly fitted shoes and that environmental hazards (e.g., throw rugs)
