Determine Requirement of Trace elements for Infant?
Most elements, such as zinc and iodine, hold a major significance in infant nutrition. Zinc is associated with growth while iodine with the brain growth and development. Their significance starts since conception in the mother and should be adequately provided. There are no specific age-wise requirements (ICMR 1990) but in an adult, zinc requirement is 15.5 mg/d and iodine is 150 mcg/ d (ICMR 1990).
