Problem:
Interview a 4- or 5-year-old child in an effort to determine if the child thinks egocentrically. After a warm-up period where you establish a comfortable rapport with the child, ask the child the questions below, recording the answers verbatim (or as accurately as possible). After the interview is concluded, look at the answers again and underline or highlight statements that reveal egocentrism.
1. Why does the sun shine?
2. Why are balls round?
3. Why does the wind blow?
4. Why is there snow?
5. Close your eyes. Can you see me? Do you think I can see you?
6. Do you have a best friend? What is your best friend's name? Does have a friend? Who?
7. Other questions:
