As argued in class, epoch times force people to search for new knowledge. You are in an era of radical change with advancing technology, globalization, shifting power relations and heightened competition. Developing new knowledge necessarily implies creativity and innovation.
Those who don't innovate run the risk of losing their comparative advantage. Those who become more innovative will shape the future - they will become "makers" rather than "takers".
‘The Scenario'
Congratulations. You have been chosen as the preferred consultant to deliver a paper to Company XYZ's leadership team. As you are aware from the consulting brief our company has engaged in a transformational process where we have implemented flatter structures and cross-functional teams in an attempt to improve our response to the fast-changing nature of our industry, markets, and customer preferences.
Despite these structural changes our company continues to lose market share - "Our competitors continue to provide more innovative solutions".
We need you to produce an analysis that provides a leadership philosophy to improve our ability to innovate.
Guide to this assignment
This assignment requires you to develop a leadership philosophy for leading innovation - more specifically, leading teams of people as they engage in the process of innovation to discover new and exciting ways to create opportunities and to solve problems (just as you have been experiencing during your ideation activities).
You are required to consider why after transformational change, Company XYZ is still unable to find innovative solutions.
This paper needs to analyze and discuss what you have learnt in class about approaches to leadership in Late Modern times, self-motivation, emotional intelligence, cultural intelligence, power relations, and conflict. From this analysis and discussion, you are required to develop a leadership philosophy that is appropriate for leading innovative teams.
Recommended Structure for your leadership philosophy paper:
1. Cover page with title, subject name, date, author's name, and word count
2. Introduction: outline what you are about to discuss and argue.
3. Discuss why transformational change may not necessarily result in innovation with reference to what you have learnt in class about emerging approaches to leadership, self-motivation, emotional intelligence, cultural intelligence, power relations, and conflict.
4. Develop a leadership philosophy for leading innovation - more specifically, leading teams of people as they engage in the process of innovation to discover new and exciting ways to create opportunities and to solve problems.
5. Conclusion (a summary of your recommendation to Company XYZ).
6. References
Your Leadership philosophy paper should be 2,000 words (+/-10%) not including your reference list or any appendices that you might wish to attach.
