Design and complete a hands-on lab experiment to identify factors that influence the rate of respiration in yeast and to test a factor influencing the rate of respiration by using the materials below:
- bottle - screw-on lid (such as a baby bottle or water bottle)
- clay, modeling
- container or bowl, large (to hold water)
- container, tall narrow (such as a baby bottle or water bottle)
- container, tall narrow
- drill or sharp tool (approximately the same diameter as the tubing)
- Lab Notebook
- marker
- stopwatch or clock with second hand
- sugar (1 teaspoon)
- tablespoon
- tubing, flexible - 24 inches long
- water yeast (1 teaspoon)
Optional:
- chemicals for adjusting pH (acidic = vinegar / lemon juice, basic = baking soda / sweeteners)
Include your procedures, any steps, data collected. Use graphs/tables to record/present your data if necessary.
