MGMT Case D: Teachers Mutual Bank Limited - Leadership Teachers Mutual Bank Limited is one of the largest customer owned banks in Australia, with over 220,000 Members and $10 billion in assets. We serve Australians working in education, emergency services and healthcare through our five divisions: Teachers Mutual Bank, Firefighters Mutual Bank, Health Professionals Bank, UniBank and Hiver - our digital bank. Our members contribute so much to society and they deserve a bank that makes a positive social impact. We are not like other banks - profit for purpose is our business model and we are 100% owned by our members.  Instead of profits being distributed to institutional shareholders and investors via dividends, our profits are re-invested into our organisation for the benefit of members, community and society.   For more than 50 years, Teachers Mutual Bank (formerly Teachers Credit Union) has provided key financial services for those in the education sector. In 2015-2016, Teachers Mutual Bank merged with University Credit Society Limited and Fire Brigades Employees Credit Union Limited. In 2019, we launched Health Professionals Bank, and in 2021 we launched Hiver. Leadership capabilities We are looking for the Student Project Team to identify leadership capabilities that are vital for business success in the new agile world, as well as delivering on our strategic business capability of 'exceptional member experience'. Please propose an approach to influence our culture, provide solid education and reinforce leadership skills to ensure a behavioural shift towards a leader-led business. TMBL has recently placed greater focus on leadership skills, and our leadership team are called upon to ensure that their role is robust and intentional. The previous role of 'manager' has most certainly been replaced with 'leader' and the concept is here to stay. This encompasses many skills and a broad range of knowledge. There's technical, operational and many other business skills as well as the people skills that some many leaders find particularly challenging.   With the intention of setting clear leadership expectations for all levels of leadership, TMBL has invested significant resources in developing a Leadership Capability Framework (see below).  This framework outlines 5 key capabilities that leaders should focus on as a part of their development, that have been determined to be things that are crucial for organisational success. The future state vision is that our leaders are equipped to perform their role and have access to the tools and education on demand to enhance their skills at any time.  While the framework outlines the capabilities, it is yet to outline what needs to change to achieve the clear leadership expectations that the framework was designed to deliver. Please propose an approach to implement the Leadership Capability Framework, providing solid education and reinforcement strategies that will lead to behavioural shift towards a leader-led business.
