I. Design an ideal parent-community involvement plan to improve literacy development and learning for use in a high school setting keeping in mind English language learners.
In the plan address:
- The development of 3 goals related to increasing parent and community involvement in the school.
- The development of 2 strategies for achieving each goal to increase parent and community involvement in the school.
- Consider using existing partnerships (e.g., parent program, business, non-profit organization).
II. Then create a formal proposal to share with school administration the idea for a parent-community involvement plan, including implementation strategies for improving literacy development and learning in the school.
Address the following questions in the proposal:
- How to get support from other teachers on campus?
- How to overcome potential obstacles?
- What are the benefits of the parent-community involvement plan and why should the school adopt it?
III. Display on a school-year calendar monthly literacy development activities to accomplish the plan designed. Include a brief description or instructions for an activity each month.
