Complete the following task on the Topic named: A Novel Wireless Protocol Stack for Multi-Access Physical Storage Devices
Project:
The classical TCP/IP protocol suite was originally designed for wired networks. These architectures divide the overall networking task into layers and define hierarchy of services to be provided by the individual layers. The architecture forbids direct communication between nonadjacent layers, and communication between adjacent layers is limited to procedure call and responses. Further, a significant credit for the Internet revolution can also be credited towards the layered TCP/IP protocol suite, which eventually became a de facto standard for wired networks.
As a result, modern wireless networks initially inherited the aforementioned traditional layered architecture from wired networks. Nevertheless, over the last decade or so, the suitability of the layered architecture has come under close scrutiny from the research community. It has been repeatedly argued that although layered architectures have served well for wired networks, they might not be suitable for wireless networks.
For example, in a typical wired network, where the bit error rate is negligible, congestion is the main cause of packet loss, which consequently leads TCP to evoke its congestion control mechanism. However, in a wireless network, factors such as high bit error rates, channel characteristics, and user mobility may contribute to packet loss. Many studies have shown that the unmodified standard TCP performs poorly in a wireless environment due to its inability to distinguish packet losses caused by network congestion from those attributed to transmission errors.
In order to cope with problems such as the poor performance of wireless links and mobile terminals, including high error rates of wireless network interfaces, power saving requirements, quality of service and an increasing dynamic network environment, a protocol architecture that considers cross-layer interactions seems to be desirable.
Task: Design a novel architecture (protocol stack) for wireless networks.
Method: You must familiarize yourself with the current literature published under the above topic. Therefore, you must first perform a literature survey. It is recommended that you read at least 10 published papers relating to the topic. Next, you may proceed with the designing of your novel architecture for wireless networks.
Report: The report must be in the format of the template attached below. The final report must not exceed 6 pages and must include at least 10 references.
