Assignment Objectives: Upon completion of this Project, students will be able to:
1) Design a network using the platform "Cisco Packet Tracer".
2) Correctly identify cables for use in the network;
3) Physically cable a peer-to-peer and switched network;
4) Verify basic connectivity on each network;
5) Add, configure, and connect hosts and servers;
6) Simulate traffic in the network;
7) Manipulate different Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
Each group should follow and achieve the following tasks:
Task 1: Add, configure, and connect hosts
We aim to design a network using different devices as the following:
1. These devices should be distributed on at least 2 sub networks:
- Subnetwork 1: should include some Laptops (at least 2) and a Switch.
- Subnetwork 2: should include some Computers (at least 2 PC), a smartphone and a Switch.
2. Provide the configuration of the used devices by filling the information in the following table:

3. Complete the connection between the different network devices using all components of the Subnetwork 1 and 2.
4. Test of connectivity and extension:
a. Test the connectivity between all devices.
b. Describe how can you connect the Smart phone with the Switch? Justify your answer.
c. Are-there any suitable devices to connect the Smart phone with Switch?
Task 2: Simulation
1. Add a packet data useful to send message from devices in the same subnetwork 2. For example, from PC1 to PC2. Explain and justify your answer.
2. Add a packet data useful to send message from devices in different subnetworks. For example, from PC1 (subnetwork 2) to Labtop1 (subnetwork 1). Explain and justify your answer.
Task 3: Presentation
Each group members should present their work in front of their classmates. The following are some guide lines to help you plan your presentation:
a) Brief description about your network.
b) Brief description of the network configuration.
c) Brief description of the network simulation.
The evaluation of your presentation will be based on the following criteria:
- Clarity of demonstration.
- Utilization of time.
- Awareness of the contents being presented and the response to examiners' questions.
Note: The required phases should be documented in a report using MS-Word. The project report should include an introduction, the body, a conclusion and future work and a list of references. The report should not exceed 15 pages.
