Close Reading of "Shooting an Elephant."
1) As a regional policeman, the narrator speaks of his guilt upon seeing the prisoners. Why does this sight bring about a sense of guilt in him?
2) At the end of the second paragraph, the author describes his feelings about the British Empire and the Buddhists in Burma. Explain what these feelings are and why he has these feelings.
3) The narrator expresses his frustration over the caliber of rifle he has been issued and the job he is asked to perform with it. How does this shortage of power compare to his position as a policemen in Moulmein as an officer?
