Assignment Directions: As you are a graduating senior and will soon be obtaining your first entry-level position or entering graduate school, it helps to have some determination of where you stand, where you would like to go, and how you plan to get there. Based on the topics that were discussed in today's lesson, you will develop a Personal Philosophy of Family and Consumer Sciences, as it relates to your area of study. This philosophy statement should highlight the components listed below. Put careful thought into what you feel on a personal level and what will guide you towards success after graduation.
Your Perception of Family and Consumer Sciences: Here you describe what Family and Consumer Sciences (as it relates to your content area) means to you. You should highlight the various concepts you have learned (or should have learned) from your respective program. This section should be in alignment with what you would like/plan to do once you graduate from South Carolina State University.
Your Perception of Being a Life-Long Learning: Here you try and describe what learning means to you and why Family and Consumer Sciences professionals are considered "Life-Long Learners". You can either use metaphors to draw comparisons with known philosophies, or you can directly relate what you think happens that causes one to become a Life-Long Learner based on your personal experiences.
Your Professional Goals: In this section, you describe your professional goals for yourself and also list the various talents or skills that you feel you have developed and/or will need to develop up to this point. In addition to the goals that you have set for yourself, you should also provide the rationale behind these goals and how you will keep changing these goals to meet your personal growth and development.
Executing your Philosophy Statement: The most important component of your philosophy statement is your elaboration of the different activities that you will implement to ensure that your goals are achieved. You have to illustrate how your perceptions of your experiences will be translated into professional and/or graduate studies.
