Discussion
Deadlines are approaching, and your medical center has not implemented any of the information system changes for adopting the electronic health record (EHR) system.
The EHR system houses the clinician's documentation and coding. If the documentation and coding done by both the coders and clinicians is not done in accordance with documentation and coding guidelines, organizations face various risks (e.g., not being paid by insurance companies, incomplete patient records, and under- or overcoding). All risks have the potential to negatively impact the organization's revenue.
As the information technology manager, what will be your approach in organizing and implementing the required processes to ensure that your hospital is not penalized?
Describe what your approach will be for each of the following:
• Planning
• Research
• Evaluation
• Testing
Provide an assessment of benefits and costs that can be incurred from implementing the EHR system. Explain in detail why implementing the EHR system will benefit the medical center and the additional costs the medical center will incur.
Discuss the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis tool) the organization faces because of implementing this system.
