Scenario

Taio is three years old and is experiencing a child care environment for the first time at your Centre. His family is from Chinese descent. Taio's mom was born in Canada and Taio's dad is a new Canadian. Taio's extended family communicates frequently using Apps and social media platforms. Most of their extended family continues to live in China. The family speaks Mandarin at home. English is spoken in the community and at the workplace of both parents. All family members are fluent in both English and Mandarin. Taio's family's cultural values and beliefs remain strong. Taio's parents play an active role in his learning and early education. There is clear value to high academic achievement. He tends to enjoy problem-solving activities with math and science foundations rather than language or creative activities. Taio's diet at home consists exclusively of Chinese cuisine, such as hotpot and dumplings. Chow mein (stir-fried noodles) are Taio's favorite. He has been attending the Centre for about two weeks and you are his educator. He appears to enjoy solitary or parallel play and is often quiet during group times such as shared reading times or meal times. You've had limited experience with Chinese culture, but are eager to learn more from the family.
