One theory to focus on is Virginia Henderson's Need Theory. According to Abdul Majeed et al. (2023), this theory focuses on increasing patient's independence to improve their recovery. The theory directly relates to patient care since assumptions made by this theory are that nurses take care of patients until they can take care of themselves, patients always desire to return to their normalcy, and nurses among other healthcare providers are always devoted to taking care of patients day and night. Further, the theory argues the body and the mind are interrelated and inseparable, thus, their needs need to be addressed simultaneously. This is achieved by nurses assessing all patient's conditions and developing appropriate interventions. The second theory under consideration is the Theory of Human Caring, developed by Jean Watson. According to DeNisco (2024), the main tenets of this theory are that humans cannot be treated as objects and cannot be separated from self, others, nature, and the bigger workforce. Therefore, when attending to patients, nurses are obliged to offer holistic care. This is achieved by nurses developing good relationships with a patient, thus, patients share their holistic needs.
