Today is the first time that you have been asked to guide the Year 1 students in a small reading group. Mr Bridge has discussed your role, the structure of the activity and duration of the lesson. He has asked you to read with a group of five students, using books which are tailored to the students^ current reading levels. Students will take turns reading the book.

Mr Bridge explains that you should introduce students to the book by discussing the author(s) and the book cover. After this, he suggests that you discuss the topic of the book to assess students' prior knowledge. Mr Bridge suggests that this knowledge will support you to increase students engagement with the text when you begin to ask them questions and engage them in group discussion.
