Assignment task:
The topic I chose was to describe three business communication situations where a technology channel would be inappropriate for exchanging information. The first situation would be when the message is time-sensitive and both participants are in the same office. For example, imagine two employees seated side-by-side. One needs a report by 10:15 AM that same day. Instead of sending an email, the most straightforward option would be to tap the other person on the shoulder to get their attention. It's not logical and appropriate to send an electronic message in this scenario.
The second situation would be when the subject is very emotional in nature, such as a layoff announcement or a singular person getting fired. Expressing personal situations that have prevented a worker from doing their job may also be better suited for face-to-face communication, as it creates empathy or sympathy on the receiver's part. According to 'Digital versus Face-To-Face Communication I Resources for International Students, 2020; face-to-face communication preferable when addressing sensitive issues or information that you wish to keep private! The last situation would be when the participants are meeting for the first time. While this can be supplemented with video, there are plenty of benefits to having face-to-face communication in this scenario. There is the addition of full-body nonverbal cues, which add depth to the conversation and leave a lasting impression. Additionally, how someone says something (the intonation) will add more meaning to the message. This version of communication also promotes bonding, which will make working together much smoother. According to Hooijberg & Watkins, 2021, 'Bonding refers to the creation of emotional connections that lead to trust, support, and openness among participants:
I need you to response to the above. See how he's wants the response to be.
