This assignment deals trade and trade policy tools data and it is designed to familiarize students to data sources and to link it to class discussion.
The assignment asks you about trade flow and tariff structure of three countries: U.S, China and one other country of your choice.
To complete this assignment, first select a country, then retrieve the trade flow and tariff data for each country.
1. Get bilateral trade flow (both import and export) data for the three countries (i.e. trade among U.S., China and the country of your choice)from the OECD website at (https://stats.oecd.org/Index.aspx?DataSetCode=BTDIXE#).
Retrieve import and export transaction of the country you selected with China and US for the period from 2006 - 2013 (Instruction on how to retrieve the data is provided separately). Obtain the trade flow (exports and imports) for total agricultural,total manufacturing goods, and goods grouped by technology intensity (high-technology, medium-technology, and low-technology industries).
2. Describe the trade flow pattern of the country of your choice with US and China. Was there an increase or a decrease in trade flow? (Optional: graph the trade flows over time).

4. Are the bilateral imports and exports the same for any two countries? Explain why
5. Describe the trend in and patterns of the trade flows of agricultural products? Manufacturing products, high-tech goods, medium tech goods, and low-tech goods?
6. Get tariff profile of the three countries (China, U.S and the country of your choice) from the World Trade Organization (WTO) Tariff Profile publication
7. Which country had the highest average tariff rate in 2013? In 2006? Was there a significant change in the tariff rates between 2006 and 2013? Explain
8. Is there a relationship between the values of exports, imports, and tariff rate of each country? Explain.
