Assignment: Case Study- Generalized anxiety disorder
Abstract:
This assignment of case study illustrates concepts of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment within the context of child clinicalpsychology. Its primary purpose is to teach and familiarize students about the dynamics of the case formulation & treatment planning.
Objectives:
Demonstrate your understanding of the DSM-5's definition of a mental disorder by writing a
case study by following the steps below:
Case History:
1. Background Information
The first section of your paper will present your client's background(age of your client should be less than 18 years old). Include factors such as age, gender, work, health status, family mental health history, family and social relationships, drug and alcohol history, life difficulties, goals and coping skills and weaknesses.
2. Description of the Presenting Problem
In the next section of your case study, you will describe the problem or symptoms that the client presented with. Describe any physical, emotional or sensory symptoms observed orreported by the caregiver.
Thoughts, feelings, and perceptions related to the symptoms should also be noted. Any screening or diagnostic assessments that are used should also be described in detail and all scores reported.
You can suggest the suitable psychological testes to be used based on the symptoms.
3. Your Diagnosis
Provide your diagnosis and give the appropriate Diagnostic and Statistical Manualcode.
Explain how you reached your diagnosis, how the clients symptoms fit the diagnostic criteria for the disorder(s), or any possible difficulties in reaching a diagnosis.
4. Intervention
The last section of your paper will focus on the intervention to be used to help the client including the treatment plan.
Describe the therapy that could be used to treat your client, Provide information on the type of treatment you chose, the expected client's reaction to the treatment. Explain why the treatment is going to be successful or unsuccessful based on the history of your client.
Some of the possible treatment approaches you might choose to explore include (you can choose any other approach that is not listed here):
1. Psychoanalytic Approach
Describe how a psychoanalytic therapist would view the client's problem. Provide some background on the psychoanalytic approach and cite relevant references. Explain how psychoanalytic therapy would be used to treat the client, how the client would respond to therapy and the effectiveness of this treatment approach.
2. Cognitive-Behavioral Approach
Explain how a cognitive-behavioral therapist would approach treatment. Offer background information on cognitive-behavioral therapy and describe the treatment sessions,expected client response, and expected outcome of this type of treatment.
Make note of any difficulties or successes expected to be encountered by your client during treatment.
3. Humanistic Approach
Describe a humanistic approach that could be used to treat your client, such asclient-centered therapy. Provide information on the type of treatment you chose, the expected client's reaction to the treatment. Explain why the treatment is going to be successful or unsuccessful based on the history of your client.
4. Play Therapy.

1. Students can pick any disorder related to the course domain that represent concern to their community.
2. Your case study should be approximately 4 to 6 pages, typed and double-spaced. It is worth 10 points.
3. Choice and use of sources: Acceptable sources are books/eBooks/journal articles from library resources; reliable websites for example: edu, .org, .gov .
4. Bibliographic information: Citations thorough, clear, easy to trace, and proper APA format . (Site at least 10 references).
5. Do not refer to the subject of your case study as "the client." Instead, use a pseudonym.
