A new chief executive officer (CEO) has taken over the top leadership position and is requiring every nurse manager to develop at least one innovative strategy to promote quality patient care. Utilizing the nursing process as your guide, you will formulate a plan for an innovation in patient care delivery for an entire nursing department or unit. You are charged with the responsibility of developing a comprehensive and complete plan that addresses all technology services in your nursing department or unit.
For this assignment, prepare a report of 3-5 pages that describes the plan for innovation in patient care delivery in the nursing department or unit. It should include all of the following:

Introduction: This should explain what the paper is about, including the purpose of your report.
Assessment: Identify the area, service, or product requiring innovation. Describe how you will approach an inventory of technology for your nursing department or unit and how you will prioritize your findings.
Diagnosis: Diagnose (identify) problems, and discuss how and why innovation is needed.
Plan: Provide your suggestions and recommendations for action. You may wish to include the following:
Examine the literature surrounding and supporting your area of innovation.
Recommend the strategies and processes needed to effectively complete this innovation in the organization while protecting patient safety and quality of care.
Outline the steps that are needed to put the innovation into practice.
Evaluation: Suggests 2-3 questions that will measure the innovation's effectiveness.
Conclusion: Summarize your report.
Citations and references: Use at least 2-3 current (from within the last 5 years) peer-reviewed journals, and cite them in APA format.
The university system started using continuous glucose monitors (CGM) for patients who required closer glucose monitoring and were receiving insulin drips in the intensive care unit (ICU) during COVID-19. For patients receiving insulin drips at these facilities, hourly blood sugar checks are standard procedure. If an intervention is made, the protocol calls for rechecking blood sugar levels in 30 minutes (Mandy, personal communication, September 25, 2025). After implementation risk of exposure for healthcare personnel was decreased and staff members' workflow was enhanced by having more time for other tasks thanks to the implementation of the (CGM) systems (Perez-Guzman et al., 2021). A plan will be developed for implementation following a thorough investigation into research for best practice, efficacy, cost effectiveness, insurance coverage, value to patients, staff work flow, and the hospital system compatibility requirements to name a few items (Endsley, 2010).

The three-step process outlined in Lewin's Change theory would be effective for me. Stage of unfreezing: Concentrates on raising problem awareness and reducing pressures that uphold the status quo (Finkelman, 2023). This entails acknowledging the presence of an issue and the potential for resolution. Methods such as quality improvement (QI) statistics, survey findings, and interview results, as well as an open discussion of pertinent topics in staff and management meetings, might be employed to encourage unfreezing. One should have a deeper comprehension of the matter at hand. I would start engaging stakeholders and brainstorming.
Moving stage: Clearly defines the issue or problem and creates objectives, goals, and/or results. There is development and implementation of strategies to achieve the goals and objectives. This is the phase of the process that involves promoting new ideals, attitudes, and actions. Brainstorming and involving stakeholders would be a part of this stage (Finkelman, 2023). Education would also be done as part of this stage.
Stage of refreezing: This phase begins when the change is integrated into the workplace and its procedures (Finkelman, 2023). The objective at this point is to stop things from going back to how they were, which may take some time because it is simple to go backward.

I would evaluate implementation and post implementation data on areas like patient outcomes, work flow, cost analysis, lab values, infection rates to name a few. After evaluation, I would implement the plan, do, study and act cycle to continue to evaluate effective innovation change (Endsley, 2010).
After assessing present the findings CGM in ICU, I would assess whether this innovation could be applied to other hospital departments and for systemic adoption.
