Describe the physiological effects that occurred

Problem

Describe the physiological effects that occurred in their bodies by working out in 115 degree heat index for the length of time they were running. Compare that to being outside on a day that is below freezing. Outline the ways in which the body compensates for such variations in temperature and identify these mechanisms as homeostasis at work.

Apply what you have learned in this chapter to your post. Document your answers. In other words, don't include statements that are based totally on how you "feel " without justifying them with facts.

STORY

It was a hot and humid, typical southern August day. The two freshman women runners were excited and apprehensive. It was the first training run of their cross country collegiate career. The run began at 3:00 PM. Actual temperature was 100 degrees, with a heat index of 115 degrees. Being from Texas and Arkansas, the two freshmen knew what it was like to run in the heat, and had been trying to acclimate themselves all summer; but, this was afternoon heat.....could the body even be conditioned to run competitively in this kind of heat and humidity?
