Describe the key motives involved in the increased presence of Westerners in India, China, and Japan in the 1700s and 1800s. Identify the key factors that led to Britain's successful imposition of its presence and trade policies on China, despite communications like those from Emperor Ch'ien-lung (i.e., Qianlong) and Commissioner Lin Zexu (i.e., Lin Tse-hsu). Describe your favorite Japanese wood print that captured the imagination of leading Western artists.

One of the key motives that involved the increase presence of western in China was the fact that China had tea and the British wanted it. And the fact that India produced large amounts of opium which the Chinese loved to use it made for a very good business because not only could they be able to maybe trade goods for tea they they could all so use the opium for trade and to make money.

The main thing that allowed the Britain to trade and make policies in China is the fact that China started a war on drugs and and seized over 2 million in goods, 42,000 pipes and 20,chest of opium.

This outraged the British so they began attack and killed over 20,00 Chinese and just to make peace they signed a treats. One which was the unequal treaty, which i think was total unfair because the Chinese were made to pay 21m silver dollars because the British broke the Chinese law and the Chinese tried to help their people.

I think the wood print Fig 29;19 Katsushika Hokusai The Great Wave show how the artists captured the imagination of the Japanese.

Read, listen to, and watch the sources for the opera composers. Describe the major influences that Verdi, Wagner, or Puccini exerted upon opera in terms of making it more innovative, realistic, and even controversial. Speculate on how audiences may have reacted to the work of this composer.

After looking at all three I myself like Wagner's to me it has that scary feeling but excitement compared to listen to Puccini which really was boring now I will say that Verdi play was okay but Wagner is the one that was more realistic and innovative. I thin that by him using instrument to increase the sound instead of actually use the singer made it more suspenseful
