Part 1: Classroom Observation
Observe an elementary classroom for at least one class period. Note your observations by writing a short, one-paragraph response to each prompt below.
- Describe teacher interaction with students in the classroom.
- What educational philosophy might have influenced these teacher interactions?
- Describe the classroom demographics.
- Identify an artifact used, such as Gradebook or a classroom teaching plan, and describe its significance.
- What evidence of teacher-centered instruction (e.g., lectures) did you observe?
- What evidence of student-centered instruction (e.g., small-group activities) did you observe?
Part 2: Teacher Interview
Conduct an interview with the classroom teacher. Ask the questions below, as well as any other questions you have. Write the teacher's responses for each question.
1. What do you believe are the most important character traits for a teacher to have?
2. What are the rewards and challenges of working in education?
3. What current educational issues or trends have the most effect in the classroom? Provide an example.
4. What professional development workshops or resources does your district provide that address current educational issues or trends?

Part 3: Reflection Summary
Write a 350-word reflection summary of your classroom observation and teacher interview. Address the following question:
• Do the answers in the interview, the demographics, and the teaching and learning style you observed connect? Provide rationale and examples for your response.
