Assignment:
Biotechnology
Biotechnology is the use of living organisms or their components to perform practical tasks. The scientific principal behind biotechnology has been around for centuries in early practices of food production and preservation (wine, cheese, and meat curing), selective breeding of livestock and field crops, and the production of antibiotics and holistic medicines from microorganisms. Today, biotechnology is used to manipulate genes, isolate DNA, and discover the genetic code of countless organisms, including humans. Currently, the practice of biotechnology is revolutionizing biological research, human medicine, criminal law, and agriculture.
Each individual student will need to write a short synopsis of the chosen topic (1-2 paragraphs) adequately describing the topic as thoroughly as possible.
Items to address in the DB:.
1. Describe the topic by listing when it came into being
2. what is the technology?
3. How does it work?
4. What are the positive/negative aspects of the topic?
5. What are the current and potential uses of the technology?
6. What is its application to modern science, technology, industry, business, and/or government.
7. How does this technology relate to modern society?
If applicable, describe how this biotechnology has evolved. Some topics are very new whereas others have been around for some time.
Some have limited applications while others are global.
*Please do not include personal opinions about any of the technologies or make comments on other students' submissions pertaining to personal opinions or feelings about the topics.

ELISA Biotechnology.
ELISA
ELISA is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent. It is designed for detecting and quantifying peptides, protein, antibodies, and hormones. ELISAs are typically performed in 96-well polystyrene plates, which will passively bind antibodies and proteins. It was first described by Engvall and Perlmann in 1971.
ELISA operate on principles very similar to other immunoassay technologies. It relies on specific antibodies to bind the target antigen, and a detection system to indicate the presence and quantity of antigen-binding. In order to maximize the sensitivity and precision of the essay, the plate must be carefully coated with high-affinity antibodies- a process that Boster Bio has mastered. It can be performed in four types: direct, indirect, sandwich, and competitive.
ELISA is a positive choice because of its sensitivity, specificity, stability, and service. ELISA is applicated in the medical field for early detection of cancer, drug test and pregnancy tests, detection of platelet antibodies. It is used in the food industry to detect the percentage of allergens for legally required ingredient labeling. Also, it helps in detection of viruses is that they can be used in developing countries, where infection rates are often very high, allowing for opportunistic testing.
