II. On pages 166-67 of the World on Film textbook, Martha Nochimson introduces this module's feature film as The Bicycle Thief. You may have then noticed when you viewed the film via Kanopy that Criterion titles the film Bicycle Thieves. For decades after its original release, Ladri di biciclette was known in the United States as The Bicycle Thief.
Why do you think it is significant that the film is actually titled Bicycle Thieves (plural) rather than The Bicycle Thief? Why does the plural form matter?
