Describe sensory adaptation and then give one example of a case in which one might interpret this to be an advantage and one that could be considered a disadvantaged.
A - "Sensory adaptation is a decrease in sensitivity during continued stimulation" (Carter), when the body's senses adapt the change in its environment from an extended period of time within that environment.
A positive example is adaptation to light. In combat most operations are conducted at night. The longer a person is operating in the dark the more his eyes will adapt to the change is less or no light.
A negative example is when your body adapts to cold temperatures. When a person is in a clod environment the body can adapt and the person will get use to it. For prolong periods of time this could to a person getting sick with a cold or the flu.
