Assignment task:
This week we are looking at research methods that utilize experiments and methods that are non-experimental. Experimental designs have two groups that during the experiment are tested to see if there is a relationship. There is a control group and then one or more treatment groups. While non-experimental designs lack the ability to change the independent group or randomly assign members to groups. There are a few types of non-experimental designs, they include, single-variable, correlational and qualitative (Price, 2016). For my research proposal which focuses on the regional countries' influence on a China-Taiwan conflict, I would likely use the non-experimental qualitative method. This method focuses on qualitative research that gives big picture data. It relies on experiences of the participants as well as observations. Using surveys and interviews as well as observations of regional countries, the research can collect large amounts of data based on experiences of individuals which aims to draw conclusions. I also will not be able to manipulate the variables as the members of the countries and influence that both they have on China and China has on them cannot change. The study is also based largely on the experience and development of the participants in their own environment. Changing their environment could change the results and skew the conclusion. Some of the observational information is also based on events that occurred previously (Price, 2016).
