Problem: DT is an 82-year-old male with PMH of benign prostatic hyperplasia, chronic kidney disease, gout, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, proteinuria, and type 2 diabetes. When he presented to the emergency room with lower extremity weakness, slurred speech, and left facial droop, after being evaluated and having tests carried out, it was confirmed he had a stroke with an unknown cause.
Describe the relationship between any disease and/or risk factors in PMH that may have contributed to the development of the problem (which disease likely developed FIRST that began the "domino effect?").
