Homework: Economics Project
You are to research a topic of your own choice but as a statistician and an economist you must approach the project by stating a theory, collecting data to test the theory, analyze the data using statistical methods, and draw a conclusion.
Here is a general outline for the report:
I. Introduction
1. Describe the purpose of your research and state the main hypothesis.
2. Describe the relevant population.
II. Data Description
1. Describe where the data is from and how you collected the data. Cite all data sources. I would recommend that you collect secondary data. (Remember that collecting primary data on human subjects requires approval from IRB, which I would not recommend for this extra credit homework)
2. Discuss how you combined/cleaned the data in getting it ready for analysis.
3. Describe the final sample
III. Descriptive Statistics a. Provide tables and graphs that describe your data and discuss descriptive findings. (The tables and graphs should be in the Appendix, in the report you just write about them while referencing the particular graph or table in the appendix)
IV. Analysis
1. Write out your hypothesis that you will test.
2. Describe in detail which statistical analysis you have selected and why is it appropriate. For example, if you conduct a regression analysis make sure you write out the equation/model you are testing.
3. Conduct the appropriate analysis.
4. Show results
V. Conclusion
1. Discuss your results and make general conclusions regarding the hypothesis you tested.
VI. Works Cited
1. List data sources you used if not primary data
VII. Appendix
1. List all Figures and Tables you used in the project.
2. A snapshot of your data - I don't want to see your entire data file if it is large but provide 1 page that show the variables you used and first 20 rows of the data.
Format your homework according to the give formatting requirements:
1. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the course title, the student's name, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also include a reference page. The references and Citations should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
