Assignment Task: Poster Presentation
The overall aim of this poster and audio presentation is to demonstrate your understanding of formulation and diagnosis approaches to understanding a client's difficulties, using a specific mental health issue (see Appendices) and psychological approach (CBT).
You must select ONE of the two cases studies in the Appendix section for your poster presentation, which has two parts:
A: The poster itself which must be ONE PowerPoint slide
B: Accompanying SEVEN minute audio recording
Your presentation will test the same learning outcomes as the original piece of work (below). Thus, your poster and audio recording must demonstrate all three learning outcomes:
Learning Outcomes:
1. Describe and compare diagnostic classification and formulation approaches to psychological perspectives on mental health
2. Explain the role of theoretical models and schema in the psychological perspective on mechanisms and processes of mental health issues.
3. Describe to a general audience a psychological explanation of a mental health issue using an appropriate theory or model using a poster format and elevator pitch.
In relation to the first learning outcome your poster will display a psychological formulation, and you may also include some information that compares this to and conveys how your formulation fits/does not fit with a specific diagnosis (see marking criteria below).
To meet the second learning outcome, you must describe and explain the client's difficulties from the perspective of a cognitive behavioural model (the 'hot cross bun'). Be mindful that the case studies provide only a snapshot of the client's issues, and you can therefore demonstrate your depth of understanding by making reference to issues you would like to know more about i.e., what the client hasn't said.
It is worth noting that the learning outcomes overlap. For example, in discussing formulation (LO 1), some of the arguments you construct would logically focus on the role of cognitive behavioural theory as an explanation of condition X or Y (LO 2).
The third learning outcome is testing your oral presentation skills and allows you to demonstrate your skills in formulating a strategy for presenting and communicating a psychological explanation of a specific mental health issue using a specific model and theoretical framework (i.e. Cognitive Behavioural Theory).

Poster Assessment
Assessment of this coursework will be based on an evaluation of the poster itself, and the SEVEN minute audio recorded presentation. The criteria below will be used to assess your work. The criteria themselves are not individually graded, rather, an overall grade that reflects the quality of the work will simply be assigned. Along with this overall grade you will be given narrative feedback on how well you performed in relation to each criterion and on strengths and weaknesses in your presentation.
Question 1: Does the content of the poster presentation demonstrate a clear understanding of the client's difficulties from a cognitive behavioural perspective?
Question 2: Does the poster and student convey an understanding of formulation and diagnostic approaches to the client's difficulties?
Question 3: How clearly laid out was the poster (e.g. legible and free from grammatical errors; appropriate font size and use of color)?
Question 4: How well did the visual image/s enhance the poster and the key message/s?
Question 5: How well was the time available for the presentation used?
Question 6: How clearly did the presenter speak i.e. audibility?
Question 7: Has the student demonstrated skills in formulating a clear strategy for presenting/communicating the hot-cross bun as an explanation of the client's presenting difficulties and how this contrasts with the DSM?
