Problem: VIRTUAL TEAMS SCENARIO EVALUATION
Based on your own experiences and evaluate the scenario below. Describe the positive actions that Zach took and the negative actions (or absence of actions) as he worked with his virtual team. What could Zach have done to make sure that the project would be meet the deadline of twelve week? (Scenario taken from a training workshop in "How to Manage Remote Employees" (Pryor Learning)
"Zach was the leader of a team of eight remote workers. When he formed the team and assigned the tasks, everyone was issued access to a project management website. The kick-off meeting was held using a conference call application. Zach emailed an agenda to each person and read over the timeline and project tasks during the 20 minute call. The team had 12 weeks to meet the goal and hand over all of their project work to Zach's supervisor. During the 12 weeks, many of the individual deadlines were not met and the team members began to blame one another for their failings. Zach become frustrated and replaced two workers at 5 weeks. In the end, the team wrapped up the project at 18 weeks. Zach felt the lateness was acceptable since no project ever goes as planned."
