Assignment task:
In the introduction chapter and lesson, you were introduced to several philosophical views of human nature and different theoretical approaches.
There are two parts to this activity.
First, explain why your view of human nature is:
- Negative: People have a tendency to do wrong or error, even if intentions are good.
- Positive: People have a tendency to do right or good. There are no inherent evil people.
- Neither: Human behavior is determined by outside agents or forces like environment or genetic predisposition.
- Diverse: Human behavior is guided by decisions and therefore, people can change from exhibiting good behavior to bad behavior based on choices they make.
Secondly, explain your theoretical perspective foundation based on one of the following choices:
- Psychodynamic: Believe behavior/personality is guided by unconscious forces or desires outside of your awareness.
- Trait/genetic: Believe behavior is guided by genes, predispositions, inherited traits.
- Environmental: Believe behavior is determined by your circumstances, reinforces, and punishment.
- Representational/Choices: Includes Cognitive, Construct, Humanistic and Existential theories. Believe that personality is the product of how a person represents or encodes experience. This theory postulates that people are free agents who are responsible for making decisions.
