Assignment: Cartoon Content Analysis
Watch at least one hour of children's cartoons, including at least two different programs. Observe and document the number of violent acts and the number of prosocial acts displayed during each segment. Compare the two programs and provide the following for each program (typed):
1: State the name, source, date, and the time of the program.
Example: Name of Program- Smurfs
Source- Television, Boomerang Network
2: Give a general description of the program's content. What was the show about? What happened?
3: State the total number of aggressive behaviors observed and documented.
4: Describe one scene that illustrates aggression in detail.
5: State the total number of prosocial behaviors observed and documented.
6: Describe one scene that illustrates prosocial behavior in detail.
7: a) What aspects of this program are most likely to appeal to 3-6 year olds, and why? b) What aspects of this program are most likely to appeal to 7-11 year olds, and why?
8: Could any of the program content be confusing to children? Why?/Explain.
9: What might a child learn from watching this program?
10: Do you think this program is appropriate for children, and conductive to their development? Explain why you believe this is a good program for children, or why you think it is not a good program for children.
