Describe onboarding process for new employees

Case Study: Five years ago, you were hired by Revolution, a retail clothing store, to work in their corporate HR Department. You clearly remember your excitement and nerves getting ready for your first day of work. You carefully selected your outfit, filled your new bag with the essentials, and left home in plenty of time to arrive at work well before 8:00. As you walked into the corporate office, your excitement grew. You had been trying for two years to get an HR position at Revolution. It was quickly evident that not everyone was as excited about your first day as you were. The department receptionist showed you your desk, and a couple of coworkers briefly acknowledged you as you walked by. You were given some documents to review and sign and told your boss would be with you shortly. Two hours later, when your boss finally emerged from her office, she seemed harried and told you she would give you a tour of the company and introduce you around tomorrow. Today, she was too busy. Didn't she know you were starting today? She provided more information to read and asked a coworker to show you how to log in to the company network to complete some online training. You made it through those first few days and eventually were welcomed by the team. Five years later, you love your job at Revolution - but you still remember those first few rocky days. Today, you have been asked by this same boss to provide input for training on the onboarding. The company is planning a large expansion and expects to hire new employees for several locations within the next year. As you think back on your onboarding experience, as well as your education and experience in HR, you have the opportunity to create a positive onboarding experience for these new employees.
