Describe Independent Events in maths?
Events are independent if the outcome of one event does not affect the outcome of the second event. If A represents one independent event and B represents another independent event, the probability of A and B happening is the probability of A times the probability of B.
P(A and B) = P(A) P(B)
For example, if you roll a die, what's the probability of rolling a 4, then rolling a 5?
Since the first roll does not affect the second roll, both events are independent of each other.
P(4) = 1/6
P(5) = 1/6
P(4,5) = P(4) x P(5) = 1/6 x1/6 = 1/36 (about 3% chance)
