Infertility Case Study-
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disease affecting many women in the United States. The cause of PCOS is unknown, but there is a strong correlation between PCOS and body weight. Being even moderately overweight is a risk factor for PCOS, and complicates the symptoms of PCOS. It is estimated that up to 50% of women with PCOS experience some degree of infertility. Recent studies have suggested that the hormonal imbalances associated with PCOS are tightly linked to metabolic dysfunction. Thus, a new common approach to treating PCOS and women experiencing related infertility is to address both the endocrine and metabolic issues associated with this disease.
Investigate the primary scientific literature to:
1). Describe in detail the endocrine dysfunction inherent of PCOS.
2). Correlate the endocrine dysfunction of PCOS with metabolic dysfunction and body weight.
3). Articulate and rationalize the two-pronged approach to treating PCOS from both the endocrine and metabolic trajectories.
The answer should be typed, single space and be limited to two pages maximum. I will stop grading after two pages.
In grading this, I will consider:
- The inclusiveness and correctness of physiological concepts
- The quality of the writing (grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure)
- The physiological rationale for your commentary
