Some students may associate the word "bureaucracy" with terms such as highly-controlled, inflexible, rigid, unproductive, and bound by rules. However, as you have learned from this week's readings and the video clip, bureaucratic principles, if applied appropriately, can lead to a sound and effective organizational structure. Describe how the six bureaucratic principles developed by Max Weber can help managers design an efficient and effective organizational hierarchy. Identify a typical bureaucratic problem an organization might encounter and describe what managers in that organization could do to prevent that type of problem from arising.
